I was out shopping for shoes for my birthday girl (7 year old) and I decided to buy 6 pairs of white socks! (see post: Solving the “missing sock” dilemma)
I also bought a mesh bag to try out the advice about putting the used socks in a mesh bag to avoid losing them in the washer and dryer.
Will keep you posted!

Oh, I like that idea. I have a whole basket of unmatched socks. It’s so very annoying, isn’t it? I leave them in there for approximately one year. Any sock that has not been paired up by that time gets pitched. But the mesh bag idea is good. I just might be annoyed at the time it would take to go through the laundry to find all the socks before I wash them. All of our clothes go down the laundry chute into a big heap in the basement.
I agree, I’m not too keen on fishing out socks before I do the laundry. I think I might go for the idea of getting the family involved in keeping the socks together – where they put their socks in a mesh bag. (see http://jugglingmotherhood.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/solving-the-missing-sock-dilemma/ )
It’s great that you have a laundry chute. I wonder if your children are old enough to “Keep the matched socks together. Pin the socks together as soon as they get taken off.” In the post above it had a product called the “sock cop”.
Happy matching!
