Quick Question: Am I a TV prude?

Last week I heard a couple of 9-11 year old boys talking about TV. Then I heard “Which do you think is better Two and a Half Men or The Big Bang Theory?”, the other boy enthusiastically gave his answer, but I was still taken-a-back by the first question to hear the answer.

I’m not too familiar with these show, but I thought that Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory are aimed at a much older audience. Perhaps those who are familiar with these shows could fill me in.

Maybe I am just a TV prude!

  1. i absolutely cannot stand the programme 2 and a half men! i can’t think of a show more denigrating/sexist towards women….it’s absolutely not a show for children from the little bits i’ve had the misfortune of watching…so there’s my mini rant for the day ha!

  2. I’ve seen maybe two, three of both of them & I think they have adult humor& sarcasm that’s not good for kids to be exposed to. Way too sexual. Life isn’t all about dating & fancy cars. not all mothers are mental… etc.
We haven’t owned a TV in years, so I wouldn’t know what “the norm” for kids to watch at that age is these days. I saw the shows at a friend’s house (no kids with me).

  3. You are so NOT a TV Prude. I agree with you…. I can’t believe what some kids my daughter’s age watch (she is 9). Don’t parents care anymore about protecting children’s Innocence? Seriously just 20 years ago… it was the BRADY BUNCH I was watching!!

  4. Nope, don’t think you’re a prude. Or, if you are one, I’m right there with you! I don’t think either of those shows are suitable for 9-11 year olds. What happened to letting kids be kids? The sexual innuendos are far too much in both of those programmes, IMHO.
